Tasks

What keeps a page out becomes a task

A noindex, a robots.txt rule, a redirect, another address kept instead: one task for each kind of problem, with what to change. What each reason means

Proof

Proof notes whether Google had it

When an article's Proof runs, it records whether Google had the page then; if Google adds it later, you can ask its prompts again.

FAQ

Questions

How do I check if a page is indexed by Google?
For one address, paste it into URL Inspection at the top of Search Console. For the whole site, Indexing asks URL Inspection about the pages your sitemap lists — all of them up to 500, and on a bigger sitemap 500 chosen from every one of its files, the top-level and newest first — and shows the answers side by side.
Why does indexing matter for AI search?
Google's AI Overviews and AI Mode link only to pages Google has indexed, its documentation says. A page Google has not indexed cannot be cited there, however good it is.
How is it different from a site: search?
A site: search is an estimate: Google says it does not necessarily return every indexed page. URL Inspection is Google's own answer for each address, with the reason when a page is out.
Do you submit my pages to Google?
No: Google gives tools no way to ask it to index an ordinary page — its Indexing API is for job postings and livestreams. We open the page's inspection in Search Console, where you click Request indexing, and note that you did.
How often is it checked?
With Search Console's URL Inspection, when you open Indexing: a page Google already has every 7 days, any other page at most once a day.
Can it check pages in bulk?
Yes: up to 500 of the pages your sitemap lists — on a bigger sitemap, the top-level and newest of each of its files — and the articles published from Passcite, all at once. With no sitemap, the articles alone.
Can I check my clients' sites?
Yes. Each client's site is a brand in Passcite with its own Search Console connection, made with a Google account that has the site in Search Console. The access is read-only.
Do client reports show it?
Yes: each edition lists the pages Google added in its period after you asked for them, from Search Console.
Why only a few pages a day?
Search Console limits how many pages you can ask it to index in a day, and does not say how many. Ten at most, the ones that matter first.
What does “Read, left out” mean?
Google read the page and chose not to index it; Search Console calls it Crawled - currently not indexed. Asking again rarely helps — making the page worth indexing does, and a task says how.
Do I need Search Console?
Yes, connected with read-only access. Nothing in it is changed.
What does it cost?
Nothing. URL Inspection is free, and Indexing is on every plan, the free account included.
