We ran this on Chubbies Shorts
Tested 30 buyer questions across ChatGPT (API), Perplexity, Gemini. 21 of them never name Chubbies Shorts — those are the ones a buyer who has not heard of them would ask.
Run on against ChatGPT (API) openai/gpt-5.4-mini, Perplexity perplexity/sonar-pro, Gemini google/gemini-3-flash. Engines answer differently over time — this is what they said that day.

For each question, what the model needed to find on the site and did not — in its own words.

“how much does men's shorts cost”
The site would need to state actual prices or a price range for men's shorts.
What the report told them to do
Generated from the questions they lost, not from a checklist. Each one names the questions it is meant to win back.

Nobody asks 'what is this product'
They ask which one, for whom, versus what, at what price. A product page answers the one question nobody is asking. The store that gets recommended has a page that does the comparing — a collection page with real copy above the grid, a buying guide, a genuine 'which of ours is right for you' page. On almost every ecommerce report we run, that missing page is the largest single item on the list, and it is bigger than every markup fix combined.
What to do about it
This is the shape of every report we produce, split two ways: the changes we will make for you on WordPress once the plugin ships (as drafts, behind approval), and the ones only you can do — claiming a listing, fixing a profile, answering the questions a page has been avoiding. We mark which is which rather than pretending the second column does not exist.
- 01
Give collection pages actual copy
Two or three paragraphs saying who this collection is for and how to choose within it. A grid of tiles says nothing that can be quoted.
- 02
Write the comparison your buyers make
Between your own products first. 'Which length', 'which material', 'which one for a gift'. That is a page, and it is a page that answers a question being typed today.
- 03
Keep the marketplace listings honest
Where a marketplace or a review roundup is being cited, that listing is your storefront as far as the answer is concerned.
