Best free AI visibility checkers

Which free tools will actually tell me whether AI recommends my client, without a card?
Quick answer

Passcite's free report asks three engines per question, the most of any free check that needs no account — 12 buyer questions across ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini — and returns the competitor that won each one and the page of theirs that was cited, rather than a score. Rank Prompt's free tier is the more generous standing product: three brands, four engines (six on the paid tiers) and a PDF export, in exchange for creating an account. Foliora's preview is one run on one domain against ChatGPT and Gemini, scored out of 100 with every point traceable. overrank's checker asks for nothing at all, not even an email, but it probes only Claude with five questions and hands back a 0-100 score.

How we ranked these

These 6 criteria were fixed before the tools were scored, and the scoring is checked against them — a tool cannot be given a mark on a criterion that is not on this list, and cannot skip one. That is the whole difference between this page and the others answering the same question.

  • 01

    What it asks for first

The difference between a tool you can run on a prospect mid-call and one you cannot. An account is more friction than an email, an email is more than nothing, and a card disqualifies a thing from being called free.

  • 02

    Engines it queries

One engine is one engine's mood. Assistants disagree with each other constantly on exactly the comparative questions buyers ask, so a single-engine check can tell you the opposite of what a second one would.

  • 03

    How many questions

Five probes can tell you a site is invisible. They cannot tell you which of your client's services is the one losing, which is the answer that makes anybody act.

  • 04

A score, or a named competitor

A number out of 100 is easy to put in a deck and impossible to act on. Naming the competitor that won a specific question, and the page of theirs that got cited, is the part an agency argues with a client about and then fixes. Scores are genuinely better for watching movement over months — these free checks are not that.

  • 05

    Can you run it again

One run on one domain is a demo. An agency looking at a roster needs to run the same check on the next prospect next week.

  • 06

What the free run is selling

Every one of these exists to sell something, ours included. What matters is whether the free output is useful on its own if you never buy anything.

The ranking

  • 1

    Passcite

    This is us

Free. Email, no account, no card.

A report that asks 12 buyer questions across ChatGPT (API), Perplexity and Gemini on one client site, and names who won each one.

    • What it asks for firstPartly

An email address, no account and no card. overrank's checker asks for nothing at all, so this is second place on this row, not first.

    • Engines it queriesYes

All three — ChatGPT (API), Perplexity, Gemini — on the free run. Most free checks give you one.

    • How many questionsYes

12 buyer questions, each phrased the way a person types it, against each engine.

    • A score, or a named competitorYes

No score. Every question comes back with the competitor that won it and the page of theirs the engine cited.

    • Can you run it againPartly

There is a daily cap per email address and one report per domain per week; no site count is enforced. Rank Prompt's free tier stands there permanently; ours is a run at a time.

    • What the free run is sellingYes

The free report is the whole diagnosis, not a teaser for it, and the 11 tools next to it need no email at all.

    Where we lose
    • Engine count: Rank Prompt's free tier reaches four engines including Claude, and six on the paid tiers. We ask three.
    • Standing access: Rank Prompt's free tier is free forever on three brands. Ours is one report at a time with a daily cap.
    • Friction: overrank's checker asks for nothing, not even an email. Ours asks for an email.
    • Deliverables: Rank Prompt's free tier exports a PDF you can put in front of a client. Ours does not.
    Where we are strong
    • Three engines on every free run, where most free checks query one.
    • Named competitors per question, with the cited page, instead of a number out of 100.
    • 11 free tools alongside it that need no email whatsoever.
    • No account to create, so it can be run during a call rather than after one.
  • 2

    Rank Prompt

Free forever. Account required, no card.

A standing free tier on their tracking product: up to three brands, a full first report, an action plan, GA4 and Search Console.

    • What it asks for firstPartly

An account, no card. More friction than an email, less than a trial that expires.

    • Engines it queriesYes

ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude and Google AI Mode are listed on the free tier; the paid tiers reach six.

    • How many questionsPartly

A full AI visibility report on up to three brands. The free tier's prompt allowance is not published, so we cannot say how deep it goes.

    • A score, or a named competitorPartly

Share of answer, citation counts and an action plan built from the report. It measures whether you are mentioned rather than which buyer question you lost.

    • Can you run it againYes

It does not expire, and three brands means three client sites at once. The most generous thing on this page.

    • What the free run is sellingPartly

Client reports you can build, share and export as PDF are on the free tier, which is unusually useful. The pressure is the credit ceiling on the paid tiers above it.

    Where Rank Prompt wins
    • Free forever rather than one run, on up to three brands at once.
    • PDF and shareable report links on the free tier, which makes it usable in a pitch.
    • GA4 and Search Console connected at no cost.
    • The widest engine coverage of anything on this page.
  • 3

    Foliora

Free. Email, no card. One run on one domain.

A findability score out of 100 built from four readings, two sampled from outside and two read off your own pages.

    • What it asks for firstPartly

Email confirmation before the full snapshot runs. No card, no sales call — stated plainly on the page.

    • Engines it queriesPartly

ChatGPT and Gemini. No Perplexity, which is the engine that cites smaller sites most readily.

    • How many questionsPartly

A fixed question panel plus your category phrases against Google. The count is not published.

    • A score, or a named competitorPartly

A score out of 100 — but an unusually honest one: 30 points found in Google, 30 cited by AI, 20 offer-page strength, 20 buyer coverage, every point traceable to a dated check, and it names who is cited in your place.

    • Can you run it againNo

One free run on one domain. It is a preview of the paid loop, and says so.

    • What the free run is sellingPartly

It is the front door to a $49.99-per-site product, and the score is designed to make the gap visible. That is fair, and it is still a real reading.

    Where Foliora wins
    • The only score here that shows its working — four components, each traceable to a check you can look at.
    • Names who is being cited instead of you, which most scored checks do not.
    • "Unsampled ≠ absent" is printed on their own page, which is a more careful claim than anything else in this category makes.
    • Reads only public pages and never signs in, stated up front.
  • 4

    overrank

Free. Nothing asked at all. Five checks a day per browser.

A 0-100 visibility score from five representative queries, with three suggested actions.

    • What it asks for firstYes

Nothing. No email, no account, no card — five checks per day per browser. The lowest friction on this page by a clear margin.

    • Engines it queriesNo

Claude only. The page names ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity and AI Overviews in its pitch, then says it probes Claude with five questions.

    • How many questionsPartly

Five queries, generated from your brand context. Enough to tell you that you are invisible, not which service is losing.

    • A score, or a named competitorNo

A 0-100 score plus three actions. No named competitor and no cited page.

    • Can you run it againYes

Five a day per browser, no sign-in. You can run it on a list of prospects in one sitting.

    • What the free run is sellingNo

The page labels the tool "1 of 30+ things overrank automates" and the next call to action is a free SEO audit of your site. The check is the top of a funnel more than a deliverable.

    Where overrank wins
    • Zero friction — the only check here you can run without giving anything at all.
    • Five a day, so a whole prospect list can be swept in one sitting.
    • Fast, and honest about what it does: five queries, one engine, a score.
    • Sits inside a 16-tool free matrix that is genuinely useful on its own.

What this page leaves out, and why

A ranking that quietly omits a tool is doing the same thing as a ranking that scores itself first. Every tool we considered and did not rank is here with the reason.

  • Semrush's free AI search visibility checker

It exists at semrush.com/free-tools/ai-search-visibility-checker and we did not run it on 2026-09-15, so it is not scored here. Semrush's paid AI visibility is ranked on the Semrush and Ahrefs page instead.

    Checked 2026-09-15

  • Geoa's free scan

Five questions with no commitment, per their pricing page. The terms around it are published only in Danish and we did not want to score a free tier off a translation.

    Checked 2026-09-15

  • ChatSEO

We could not reach chatseo.com on the date below, so there was nothing to check. It has a free tier worth looking at if the site is up when you read this.

    Checked 2026-09-15

  • Profound, Peec, Scrunch

Enterprise trackers. Where a free look exists at all it is a demo booked through a sales call, which is a different thing from a check you can run yourself.

    Checked 2026-09-15

Rows were last read on 2026-09-15. Prices in this category move quickly — each tool carries its own date above, so a stale row is visibly stale rather than quietly wrong. If one of these is out of date, tell us and we will re-check it.
