Getting a Shopify site cited by AI
The five things a report asks for, and where each lives
Checked 2026-09-14. Platforms change what they expose; if one of these is out of date, it is out of date visibly rather than quietly.
- Page titles & meta descriptionsYes
Per product, collection, page and blog post, under 'Search engine listing'.
- JSON-LD schemaYes
Themes emit product schema already. Extra blocks go in theme.liquid or a metafield your theme prints.
- robots.txtYes
The robots.txt.liquid template in your theme's templates folder. Editing it means editing the theme, so duplicate the theme first.
- A plain-text file like /llms.txtNo
Shopify serves uploaded files from its CDN, not from your domain root, and there is no route for an arbitrary root path. A /pages/llms-txt page is HTML, not the plain-text file the spec describes. An app proxy or a front-door proxy is the only way.
- New pages (FAQ, comparison, use case)Yes
The normal page editor.
Collection pages are where the comparison question is lost
Buyer questions are comparative — 'best X for Y', 'X vs Y', 'which X for beginners'. A product page answers none of them; it answers 'what is this one'. The store that gets recommended has a page that does the comparing, usually a collection page with real copy above the grid, or a buying guide in the blog. That page is almost always the biggest single item on a Shopify report.
What we publish, and what stays yours
Through the Shopify Admin API, on the same approval queue as WordPress — after the WordPress plugin, so not soon. Until then every action comes with steps for the Shopify editor.
Either way the report splits its actions into two columns: what we publish for you and what only you can do — claiming a directory profile, fixing a Google Business listing, answering the questions a page has been avoiding. The second column has checkboxes, because a re-test run before you have done those is a re-test measuring nothing.
Where to start on Shopify
None of this needs an account with us. The AI crawler checker and the Website metadata checker answer the technical questions in about a minute.
- 01
Duplicate the theme before touching robots.txt.liquid
It is a theme file. A theme update or a rollback takes your edit with it.
- 02
Give collection pages copy, not just a grid
Two or three paragraphs that say who the collection is for and how to choose is what gets quoted back.
- 03
Claim the marketplace profiles the report names
On ecommerce reports the answer usually cites a marketplace or a review roundup, not a store. Those listings are claimable and nobody else will do it for you.
